The naïve Scottish Establishment would grant and lose #indyref2

REJOICE, rejoice. Independence is over. The most recent GERS figures, the Cambo oilfield debacle and mass redundancy at a biscuit factory have hammered yet more nails into the coffin of Scottish independence.

While donors will undoubtedly be tapped by pro-UK think tanks and political parties by concerns #indyref2 is coming even if in rogue form the truth is there is now no case for Scottish independence on economic grounds. To expend time arguing on it is to give Nationalists a sense of entitlement and respect their crayon-scribbled claims deserve.

No, independence on Salmond’s terms has died. What is coming is far more frightening and bizarrely the establishment parties are waving it through with all the resistance of the Belgians in 1940. The next battle, now already raging in the distance, is independence waged on culture, not economics. The culture war is here and it will be stay here and advance if we simply rollover – as many are apt to do.

The Tories call themselves conservatives but they’re anything but. They are a gig, the PR branch of the worried well-off that doesn’t care about or believe in anything beyond the money already have and the money they want to make. They are then a pure play on the haves over the have-nots. The gig is simple:

‘Polarise around the singularity of independence on economic terms. Frighten the worried well-off into losing their wealth and generous subsidies, maintain the PR machine through a handful of list seat MSPs (the more bland the better), support a SNP government, be absolutely loyal to the Tory leader in Westminster, pick up peerages and directorships after ensuring the ship is handed over to steady, unassuming hands.’

That’s the gig. To scare people into voting for them by threatening something only they can ever impose on us anyway, like they did in 2014. It assumes they can indefinitely blackmail unionists into voting for them, and that should indyref ever be fought it can be won on economic grounds by, again, terrifying people into losing their money.

There’s one small problem with this gig and that is when tested it will fail. We know this because in 2016 it failed. Scottish Tories are remoaners de luxe. So locked are they in the timewarp of opposing #indyref2 they have completely overlooked the fact they lost in 2016. Yes, they won a slate of list seats with largely useless MSPs (only a few exceptions) but they lost the EU referendum. This matters because Brexit was fought from two trenches, one economic and the other cultural. In the end across the UK the cultural side just dug under the economics of remain and the so-called high ground collapsed.

The SNP and Greens have learned. This is the 79 group reborn. Woke is their religion now, rather like it was Catholicism from the early 90s to 2014. That religion was hijacked, leveraged and in the end betrayed by the Nats. By definition there is no way the Tories can win the woke from the Nats.

I don’t feign anger at this over publicised SNP Green coalition because it is in no way materially different either to the SNP or to how Scotland has been governed for the past 10 years. In the end, the SNP are in government and that is where Anas Sarwar and Douglas Ross want them.

No establishment party wants to govern and they all want the SNP to govern so they can fight over being the ‘best opposition’. When faced with the chance to unseat constituency MSPs the establishment decided instead to stand against each other and gift the SNP their seats in return for a clutch of cosy list MSPs. So long as 72 is greater than 57 this means they wanted the SNP to be in government rather than work together. They’re going to keep doing this. Don’t dare be disappointed.

While unionists sleep like the overconfident hare, the yellow and green tortoise is slowly marching on. Like Leninists they are pushing their bayonets in every direction, pushing through flesh and stopping at steel. They pursue their radical left woke agenda on the basis of zero resistance. Remember the Tories are fighting the SNP purely on economic terms. This is national suicide when the SNP are waging a culture war.

Are you Catholic and want to adopt through the church? Do you believe there are only two genders? Do you trust yourself with your children more than the heirs and heritable creditors of Derek Mackay? Do you believe in free speech? Well, sorry. No one gives a toss about you. No one is representing you if you do not factor into pounds shilling and pence.

If you are not a net credit to the Scottish economy, if you are a child or elderly, you have nothing to contribute to the establishment. It is all too telling that they are more angry over calls for boycotting Baxter’s soup following Ruth Davidson’s Board appointment than they are about a four-year-old child starting on a pathway to disrupt its hormones and growth and cut off its genitals or breasts.

Talk about having eyes on the prize. Nothing must be allowed to jeopardise the holy trinity of opposition flaccidity, list MSPs, peerages and directorships. Pinch at the teet and baby cries. Is it a wonder ravenous nationalists are stabbing against so much flesh? They want to extend emergency powers to make them permanent. One only wonders why Boris Johnson isn’t doing it himself.

The problem with any conservative party that treats the cardinal sins as days of the week in a job planner is that a truly evil movement will press ahead with indoctrinating our children, when it is not grooming them or sending them to a gender neutral room 101, to the point where, as Reagan once said, we will surrender without a shot being fired because they have beaten us from within. For the establishment it is better not to disagree than risk being rude.

So when Nationalists do threaten business, when they threaten to tax wealth and raise property prices I am delighted. It is the only thing that will ever wake them up this charmless vapid nest-feathering joke of an opposition. Big business has remained quiet throughout. It has been noticed and it has not earned them friends. They should not expect unwavering support when they are giving nothing back to maintain the social fabric of their country except hand out rainbow coffee cups.

The culture war of independence is coming, in truth it is already here and those who do not fight are only blocking the way for those of us who will. It is time to be rude to what we know is a thoroughly nihilist movement and a thoroughly compliant opposition. It is time to point rude bony fingers at those who have been far too complacent. Make no mistake, if we lose this culture war, the economic war will follow and my deck chair will be on the sand for that one.
