COST-OF-LIVING increase, NHS meltdowns, lockdown deaths, war, education crisis, political mess, strikes, grit. Anyone?  No, me neither.

Hollywood, Princes, Mansions, beautiful people, beautiful clothes, tours, podcasts, book deals, saving babies?  Count me in.  It’s much nicer and way more fun in Meghan’s world.

Twitter has obligingly lit up in response to the Archetypes podcast#MeghanMarkleLiar and#MeghanMarkleisaracist have been trending.  Also trending is #VoetsekMeghan, which for anyone not familiar with Africaans loosely translates as something close to #GoAwayMeghan’ but less polite and with added cursing.  (All can be looked-up by typing the above hashtags into a twitter account.)

#MeghanMarkleLiar’s stern position is self-explanatory.  They are annoyed that Meghan said a ‘fire’ took place in a ‘housing unit’ when the ‘fire’ was a little smoke and they are also annoyed the housing unit was in reality a beautiful mansion.  I’m sure Meghan would point out to those pedants that there is no smoke without fire (unless the smoke is a puff of bullying allegations which are racist and untrue). And what is a mansion but a fancy housing unit?

Meghan, like Donald Trump or the Bible is not to be taken literally.  Meghan’s half-sister got all annoyed about Meghan’s ‘only child’ description is in court now arguing that Meghan was objectively not an ‘only child’.  Meghan’s response?  Well ,it felt like it and that is my truth.  Which is a pretty strong legal argument – even less provable than the ‘I do not recall’ made fashionable by Bill Clinton in the 90s and could be doing with some updating.

Those people latching onto what’s true and false in our world really are not getting with the programme. Truth is personal, a feeling and objective facts in 2022 just hem us in.  Meghan didn’t invent that. She’s just really good at it. And we are getting the celebrities, like leaders, that we deserve.

#MeghanMarkleisaracist is more complex.  They are annoyed that Meghan is putting down South Africans with her whole ‘Africa is a place where even rich babies are at risk’ recollection.  No one, it would appear, likes that.  Insensitive maybe but racist?  Definitely a bit rude.

Like having someone to your house for dinner, trying to give them a good time, and them slagging your house off later.  But racist?  Are these tweeters saying criticising a black person or whole country is racist?   Imagine if Meghan was to go around saying that any criticism of her was because she is black and that a whole nation was racist.   Imagine indeed.

Meghan should seek Harry’s expertise in unconscious bias.  Although he might be busy responding to his regular slot on ‘Taking a private plane (again).  That’s their lives! I mean how fun are these people?  A criticism coming from the Meghan supporter camp (Sussexsquad) suggests that any critics are just jealous.  And in the spirit of pedantry – they are not jealous.  They don’t get what the Sussexes get.  What they are is very very envious.

Meghan is simply the most fun that Twitter has had in a long time.   And the best thing about our robust princess?  She really doesn’t give a damn.  So we wait in the darkness until the next episode.

Meghan not only helps out Spotify.  Twitter’s not doing badly either.   Let’s face it – in an insane world, Meghan is the sanest choice.  The girl is gold-dust.  Bringing together Africa is not easy to do for most.  Meghan managed it with one parable of an innocent child.  So why are Twitter so ungrateful?  Why are they persecuting her? It’s the most fun news event this side of lockdown.  If they want real life, listen to the dull Conservative hustings or the frankly embarrassing Nicola Sturgeon goes to Denmark.  They’re not fun.  They’re not shiny.  So go ahead and light up Twittersphere and keep that star glowing.

Forgive them Meghan, they know not what they do.
