THE GIFT that keeps on giving – Meghan Markle has released a podcast through Spotify.  It’s guff about ambition and double standards and balancing motherhood with a career in world dominion. Serena Williams also talks about her own struggles with ambition and double standards and balancing motherhood with her career in world dominion. Spotify may worry that it was (novelty factor aside) not quite a meeting of great minds and repeat business might tail off.   Well they shouldn’t be.  We are hooked.   We’d listen to her read the phone book.  Meghan transcends content.

So what does Meghan wants us to think about Meghan in Meghan’s podcast?   To save you wading through the verbal diarhoea that Spotify has sent out on the air waves, here’s her message in summary.  (No one understands her like I do.   So, to the world – you are welcome).

Message 1:  Meghan is clear that she was special way before Harry came along.  A rampant Joan of Arc writing strongly worded letters and changing the world for women at age 11.  Meghan’s memory has been shown to be a little unreliable.  But let’s not get bogged down in details.  She changed the world.  Take that Kate.

Message 2:  Meghan also has plenty friends.  One of her besties is Serena Williams and they talk like all the time.  They text, they Facetime, they call.  They share their lives.  The warmth between the two women who understand what it’s like to have world dominion was touching.  Their mutual admiration society started when they became ‘fast friends’ at a time when Meghan was celebrity actress and Serena was a superstar tennis player.   And they know each other’s struggles with decision making which I certainly found relatable (should I retire from world class tennis or should I ever take my Prince to Hollywood).

Message 3: No one understands that when stars (ok, Meghan) are ‘on’ that they may have had a hard day or a hard night.  Meghan who has opened up repeatedly about the nasty business of being forced to go on Royal engagements has now remembered there was a fire in her baby’s nursery.  To be fair this memory resurfaced after Serena recalled her baby having a broken wrist.  Serena is a competitive super tennis player, but Meghan beat her in straight sets in the baby trauma game.

Message 4: Harry is a clever guy.  Serena sought out Harry for advice.  Meghan remembers Harry and Serena ‘talking for like an hour down in the ….’.  Meghan petered at that point.  She’s smart. Meghan didn’t let slip the location where Serena sought Harry’s wise counsel.   It might have alienated us if she had finished her sentence, ‘I remember you two talking down in the ballroom, topiary, library, ladies’ chambers or castle’.  Harry casually popped in during the recording of the podcast (and as I predicted, his role is diminishing – he had maybe a couple of lines, one of which was using the word ‘vibe’ – suspect lines written by Meghan.  And off he popped).  Meghan, you go girl.

Narcissism may be over-used.  In Meghan’s case it’s bang on.  Reviews saying that it’s dull?  Pooh, they don’t know what they are talking about.  So sign me up Spotify, I am very entertained.   But calling it Archetype?  Spotify you missed a trick.    Was Meghamind taken?
